Ode to a team - sadly missed

(The following was written by Intern. A 2DMer through and through.)

Ode to Donna, Rick, 2DMers and all the Congressional Softball Teams we thwarted with our inferior softball skills, superior good looks, and perpetually full coolers of beerskies.

***

I came to DC, from the far away liberal left coast
Not knowing if I could hang with my "suit and tie" hosts
At the SBA I arrived, after Rick gave me the call
And soon he was cool enough to ask me to play da softball

I told him I was terrible at this game, but he said have no fear
There's nothing you can't do without copious amounts of the beer
He said hurry up and get ready, to get to the game is a hike
I said maybe for you sir, but you may not know I ride a bike!

So off to the field we went, and the first game was a grand success
The 2DMer commitment to their team name was solid, I must aptly confess
Joe was the highlight that day, with a belly-flop slide into home
Then the celebration moved on, to the Tortilla coast we did roam

We did much sightseeing there, watching drunk hill interns fool around
And I was like, temp employment here is great, opportunities abound!
With game one in hand, the whole team was pretty psyched
And the softball and drunk bike riding, were the events that I liked

Then came game 2, with these super serious softball-playing fat dudes
They measured the bases with a string, but they couldn't dampen our moods
We are 2DM fellas, and your dizzy bats look like small little sticks
After many the beverages, we kicked you blank blanks 10 - 6

The season continued with a new winning style and grace
We slaughtered most teams, while still putting down a entire case
So thanks one and all, I am almost ready to leave
However there are still a few memories, I have yet to retrieve

Jack, your hot pre-game stretching routine is quite bold,
It reminds me of what to look forward to when I get real old!
And Matt, it's all good if switch-hitting's your style
You turned around rightie mid-at-bat, and hit the ball a texas mile

Steve, you play a tastier center, then my idol senor, J. Damon
And I appreciate all the travel stories, you bestowed on me, such a laymen
Donna, what can I say, you are the fearless coach and you truly cared
If we had to play those games without beer, who knows how we would've fared

Joe, you are already gone and missed deeply by all
You're going away send off, was quite the memorable ball
And Steph for that matter, what could be said 'bout that fateful night
There's nothing like a big win, some cheap drinks and a 'lil dim light

To Audrey, the rock star, who lent me her chair when I sat out in the heat
A cooler girl that can detail me life in Germany, I fear I will never meet
Nate, my man, you had many nice plays and your swing was quite slick
Not to mention your daughters improved every team pic

To Brian, my cycling partner, that specialized certainly fits the bill
But judging from our last beer race, you need to start training on cap hill
George, you're a machine on the field and out on the town
You made such progress with those Louisiana girls, after I got repeatedly shot down

To AJ, your pitches were meatballs, sexy as can be
You should switch your allegiance to boston, it will set you free
Kim, I remember your last hit, you scored me from third
It was the game-breaker indeed, making the other team look absurd

Rick, there's not much to say, my sensei and friend indeed
Thanks for all the good times, all I had to do was follow your lead
It's been awesome to know ya, I'm sure we'll catch up somewhere along the way
For me it's off to your alma mater, where I'll speak proudly of you and the SBA

The 2DMer family in total, you guys made DC amazing for me
Carry on the tradition next summer, beer, friends and softball are key
And throughout the season, I hope there is something you all learned
There's nothing quite as hot as a beer drinking, cycling, blond INTERN

- I

Cheers guys, its been a pleasure to know you all.
