2DM Runs Takes it to the Limit
2DM, Nationals, and Orioles continue their slide
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Two Drink Minimumers (2DM) took the field Thursday evening fighting for a play-off spot in the highly competitive Capitol Hill softball league. Looking for any advantage to pull the team back into the hunt, management resolved a year-long contract dispute with Hall of Fame outfielder Tom “The Family Guy” Sullivan and promptly placed him on the mound to shake off some rust. Our opponents, Shoe City representing the interests of Wisconsin, took an apparent night off from their basketball league (they averaged about 6’3”) to focus on softball and staked themselves an early 8-4 lead entering the fourth inning. With a few scribbles in her line-up card, Stephanie King “Of the Hill” reworked her defensive strategy and called in ace reliever AJ “Gazelle” Guenther to trip up the opposition. 2DM then turned in some defensive gems including Donna “Beer Cooler Captain” Russell’s clutch footwork at 2nd base, Lisa “Don’t Call me Palmero” Curran’s ballerina-like stretch at 1st base to nip a runner, and Rich “West Coast Stylin’ ” Cook covering tons of acreage in the outfield. 2DM let in only 2 more runs going into the 6th inning while also upping the wattage on offense. Big hits by Matt “Righty-Lefty, it’s all the same to Me” Pohl, Steve “I’ll Do Whatever it Takes” Sullivan, and Jack “Sweating to the Oldies” Bienko enabled 2DM to tie it all up 10-10 and force the game into extra innings. Shoe City was able to scratch out one more run in the 7th inning and 2DM put the tying run on third base before falling just short. The 11-10 loss risks 2DM chances at lengthening their season. Exact risks are not known since we forgot to keep track of wins and losses during this 2005 season. We expect to have 2 or 3 more games and you can find us somewhere on the mall around 6pm Thursdays.
