2DM Rally Falls Short Against North Carolina’s Moonshiners

Moonshiners’ 10-run first inning proved to be too much to overcome for 2DM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After winning the previous two games by forfeit, Two Drink Minimum (2DM) had a rude awakening Thursday night. It came in the form of a 10-run first inning at the hands of the sweet-swinging Moonshiners who seemed to find every hole in the infield and outfield. 2DM fought back, outscoring the Moonshiners 8-6 in the last five innings, including five of the eight runs coming in the sixth (and final) inning. Unfortunately, the game had to be called due to darkness, so 2DM’s chances for a miraculous comeback disappeared into the dark, gray sky.

Despite the 10-run electro-shock first inning by the Moonshiners, 2DM managed to get on the scoreboard thanks to Owen “Hot Poppin” Pinkerton’s leadoff double, followed by Brian “Blastmaster” Gagnon’s single and Spencer “D” Cordeau’s RBI single. Some sweet defense by 2DM’s Allen “So Cal” Gutierrez, Michelle “I can play 2nd Base” Ort and Nathaniel “I have this foul fly ball” Bishop helped to limit the Moonshiners to three runs over the second, third and fourth innings. Meanwhile, 2DM scored three runs in the 3rd inning thanks to timely hitting by Bishop, Gagnon, Cordeau and Ort.

The sixth and final inning saw 2DM mount a ferocious comeback, scoring five runs before the Moonshiners could secure the last out of the game. “Minnesota” Joe Martin led off the sixth inning with a triple and scored shortly thereafter thanks to Gutierrez’s RBI double. George “Going, going, gone!” Koklanaris rocked a 2-run home run to left center field, scoring Gutierrez and himself. Matt “Watch your step” Pohl might have had an in-the-park home-run if he didn’t have trouble rounding first base, but he managed to work a triple out of it. Rick “Bring it on home” Vogler doubled down the left field line to drive in Pohl for 2DM’s final run.

Final score: Moonshiners 16, 2DM 9
