2 Drink Minimum Changes its Whole Latitude

It's not whether you win or lose. It's how you drink the beer.

What was supposed to be Opening Night for a team with more heart than liver, turned in to a night of nostalgia. After their game was cancelled due to a scheduling conflict, the 2DMers that know what the true meaning of the league is gathered at Tortilla Coast for a team meeting.

What did we talk about? What didn't we talk about!? In the off season, Alison got engaged! The 2DM family is growing. We had another engagement, two births, and another birth to come any day now. The next 2DM generation is slowly growing.

Owen, Stephanie, and I reminisced about the day we all met. Three years ago in the same location, Tortilla Coast. Game 1 of the 2002 season was also cancelled. The team was sponsored by SBA and only Owen and I didn't work at the agency. SBA had their expo that week and no one seemed to be around to play ball that night. Kevin emailed late in the day stating that we were going to have to cancel. He had enough women, but "couldn't get enough men to commit." I remember getting this email. I didn't know a soul on the team. I was getting in through a mutual friend that Kevin and I had. Not one to let good material go by, I couldn't resist. I replied to all, "Typical." Within a minute I had an email from Stephanie, "My thoughts exactly." It was a great moment, and what we attribute our friendship to to this day.

We recapped some of our past opponents, too. Alison reminded us of Team Choice. I am pro-choice and I choose to never play this team again. These people playing on the pro-choice team.... ugh! They would literally "bring it in" and put their hands in, and, on three, "CHOICE!" Are you serious?

Three years ago, we played the EPA team. Before I go further, yes, we have a running list of who NOT to play ever again. The EPA team gave us evil looks with every can we emptied. Don't worry, I wasn't about to leave litter. After all, I was VP of Project Environment in college. I do my part to reduce, reuse, recycle. They actually asked us toward the end if we intended to pick up our trash. Whatever.

I think laptop was two years ago. When scheduling, I stress that I want to only play teams that are out there to drink and maybe get some softball in. We were never without a cooler, so seeing the other team walk up with one was always a relief. Except this one time. Why? Because in the cooler was a laptop. The guy kept stats on his team! We don't even play on real fields!

There were many more stories shared... from on and off the field. We have had our share of high drama, but this team is really close. What a great night. What a great start to the 2005 season.
